Neemias Santos

ABOUT

Highly creative musician, started his musical studies at 8-years-old, with professor Carmen Mettig, and the piano at age 11. When he was 15-years-old he took up the cello for the 1st time, and soon it would become his first instrument and major passion. 3 years later he began his undergraduate studies in cello performance. While still in his undergraduate years he was already invited to fill in for a faculty member and join a group to travel throughout Switzerland playing Brazilian and Swiss composers chamber music. During this trip he met many professors from several conservatories, and received many invitations to further his cello studies there.

Back in Brazil, right after graduating he won a contract as section cellist on a major symphony orchestra. After one year of contract he finally flew to Switzerland for a period of intensive private instruction on cello and piano. Again to Brazil, he won an audition as principal cello at another symphony orchestra. He then was offered a scholarship at The Pennsylvania State University School of Music. While working towards his Masters course he won an audition as section cello for the Pennsylvania Centre Orchestra, and was later invited as guest principal cellist to several other orchestras. He participated in Master Classes with musicians like Aurele Nicolet, Watson Clis, Alceu Reis, Gabriela Frank, Wolfram Koessel, Gautier Capuçon, Philip Setzer, Orion String Quartet and Kronos Quartet.  More
