Edmund Dawe 

ABOUT

Praisefor his technical command of the piano and artistic interpretations, Edmund Dawe has performed as a soloist and collaborative pianist in North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. He has been twice nominated for an East Coast Music Award (Best Classical) for his solo recording, Sonatas, and piano duo recording, Dialogue, with colleague Lynn Johnson. In addition, his work has been recognized with numerous grants and awards from provincial arts councils, the Canada Council, the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, and the Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent on Records (F.A.C.T.O.R.).
Edmund’s repertoire is eclectic, extensive and includes solo and collaborative works from Scarlatti and Bach to the 21st century.

An engaging speaker, Edmund has given numerous presentations at local, provincial, national and international conferences including the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers’ Association National Conference, the World Piano Pedagogy Conference, and the Australian National Piano Pedagogy Conference. Edmund has adjudicated piano classes in over 30 Canadian competitive music festivals from Whitehorse, Yukon to St. John’s, Newfoundland. He has also served as a juror for the Juno Awards. 

Edmund has held academic and administrative appointments at several Canadian universities. His career includes seventeen
years at Mount Allison University where he was twice recipient of a Paul Paré Award for excellence in performance. From 2007-2018, he served as Dean of the Desautels Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba. Edmund led the Desautels Faculty of
Music through a period of growth, including construction of the most modern university music facilities in Canada combining the restoration of a historic building with state-of-the-art new rehearsal, recording, and multimedia spaces. In 2018, Edmund retired from the University of Manitoba and was appointed Dean Emeritus. He now devotes his time to performance, adjudicating, and research, lectures and workshops on piano pedagogy.
