ABOUT
Sara Mahn discovered her passion for the flute at the age of ten, captivated by the instrument’s expressive power and its ability to tell stories without words. Inspired by the beauty of the craft and early encouragement from her uncle - who gifted her first flutes and became her most loyal audience - Sara found her voice in music. One song in particular, Danny Boy, has remained close to her heart. It was the piece she played for her uncle on Saturday mornings as a child, and it continues to symbolize the love of family and her youthful devotion to music.
By age twelve, it was clear the flute was more than a passing interest. With growing recognition from her band director and a deepening commitment to her artistry, Sara began private study and soon flourished. Throughout high school, she served as first chair in both her school’s band and orchestra, as well as in the regional youth symphony. In her junior year, Sara won the youth symphony’s Concerto Competition, earning the opportunity to perform as a soloist - a turning point that underscored her potential on the concert stage.
Sara went on to earn her degree in flute performance, where she again rose to first chair in both the Orchestral Band and Symphony Orchestra. Her senior year brought another triumph: winning the university’s prestigious Concerto Competition. Today, Sara’s talents extend beyond her classical roots as she explores genres such as jazz and rock, bringing audiences to their feet with performances that blend technical brilliance with raw emotional depth. Whether on a symphonic stage or in a more contemporary setting, Sara Mahn continues to captivate, creating unforgettable musical experiences wherever she performs.
