ABOUT

Jens Lühr, born in 1968 in Uelzen—a town shared with composer Friedrich Kuhlau—is a German concert pianist based in Norway. In addition to his distinguished career as a performer, he is an accomplished piano educator. He has devoted over ten years to teaching at a music school in Finsterwalde, Germany, followed by sixteen years of instruction in Norway, where he has worked in cultural schools and primary schools in Hamarøy and Porsanger. Known for his inspiring and engaging teaching approach, he fosters a deep connection between students and the music they play. Since 2022, he has served as the head of Porsanger Kulturskole, continuing to shape the next generation of musicians.

With an extensive background in classical music spanning all epochs, Lühr pursued his studies at prestigious institutions, including Hochschule für Musik Hannover and Leipzig, Musikakademie Basel, and Hochschule für Musik Würzburg, between 1987 and 1998. Under the mentorship of distinguished musicians such as Prof. Markus Tomas, Rudolf Buchbinder, and Prof. Marta Janczewski-Sosinska, he refined his artistry and technique. Prior to this, from 1987 to 1993, he trained at Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover under the tutelage of Prof. Bernd Goetzke —one of the last students of A. B. Michelangeli—and Prof. Christa-Maria Hartmann. Additionally, he participated in numerous masterclasses for contemporary piano music with Jeffrey Burns at the Musikakademie Rheinsberg, further expanding his artistic scope and interpretative depth.
